Chat with Coach
NVL Blog: Will Wolcott be in the running for the NVL title this season?
Coach Pace: “Our goal in the short-term is the development our team to fill the voids left by graduating 19 seniors (including an All-State quarterback and four All-League/Division recipients). The focus this preseason is preparing ourselves to be in a position to be successful vs. Sacred Heart Week 1. I wish I could tell you, “Yes, we will in the running for an NVL title,” but at this point we still have a ton of work to do just to be ready for Week 1.”
NVL Blog: Mike Nicol was a big loss for the program. With Vincent Gambino filling in at quarterback, will the offense change much?
Coach Pace: “I strongly believe that in order for an offense to be successful it has to adapt to its personnel each year. My offensive staff, led by Coach Joe Cornelio, has done an exceptional job evolving our offense to fit our strengths. Mike Nicol was a tremendous player and the focus of our offense the past two seasons. Now that focus will shift to more of a collaborative effort. Vin Gambino and Joe Lynch will be ready lead our offense in 2013.”
NVL Blog: With tough teams like Naugatuck, Ansonia and Newtown all on the schedule this season, what are you telling your team before each of these games?
Coach Pace: “The bigger the challenge, the bigger the opportunity. Playing top-notch teams will validate any of our accomplishments. We have earned the opportunity to play Newtown by compiling the second best record in the NVL over the past two seasons. And now we will have to earn a trip to playoffs in 2013.”
Wolcott opens the season Sept. 13 at home against Sacred Heart.
