Chat with Coach

NVL Blog: Last season was obviously a step down following your 2011 Class S state championship. What lessons have you tried to take from the 2012 campaign that you can apply to this group?

Coach Giampetruzzi: “We need to be more efficient with the offense. We cannot turnover the ball as we did last season, which should improve with the year experience our young players had offensively. We need to get much better in our all-around special teams play.”

NVL Blog: Gerron Pendarvis attracted plenty of eyes last season for his defensive prowess, but he will likely see an increase in offensive touches this season. How much talent does Pendarvis have, and what are your expectations for him this year?

Coach Giampetruzzi: “I expect Gerron to be the leader of our team on both sides of the ball. He has worked very hard in the offseason to get himself ready for this season. I think he will have success if he keeps his focus and plays hard every down.”

NVL Blog: The NVL Copper Division appears to be up for grabs among several teams — most of which should have prolific passing attacks. Does your team have the defense to slow them down, and what can we expect from your own passing game this season?

Coach Giampetruzzi: “Our defense will be prepared each week. We need to do a better job of tackling and creating turnovers. I have confidence in our quarterback Joe Kalosky and wide receivers to lead our passing attack.”
