Chat with Coach

NVL Blog: Your first season on the job forced you to deal with suspensions and other distractions. How has it been to conduct an offseason and a preseason free of those burdens, and how successful do you think your first full offseason was?

Coach Johnson: “It was a lot better than the previous year, considering I got the head coach position so late into last year. But it’s still a work in progress — developing the consistency needed to be competitive week to week in the NVL.”

NVL Blog: Your offense struggled to find consistency last season. What can we expect from that unit this year, and who could emerge as your top playmakers?

Coach Johnson: “In addition to our talented seniors graduating, we also lost Jaquan Overbey, who moved to Colorado. Losing a kid like Jaquan leaves us with big voids to fill on offense. We are looking for Jae’Quan Robinson to carry the load running the ball for us this this year. Tom Carissimi will be pulling the trigger for us at quarterback with Parris Wolfe, Carmen Perugini and Dave Whitney being the primary targets. We’re looking for great things out of our seniors this year; hopefully they can answer the bell.”

NVL Blog: What will be the strength of this year’s Hearts?

Coach Johnson: “Senior leadership.”
